8. Frank Edwards, 'Stranger than Science', Pan, London 1963, p.198 (1st US edition: 1959): May be fabricated story. One person writes "Unfortunately, as I actually started to examine Edward's book, it became painfully clear that almost all his stories are lifted from the 1950's issues of FATE magazine, and often altered to sound more exciting; in fact, one of the stories he included in this book was later proved entirely false. Thus, for nearly forty years Stranger than Science has been misleading armchair parapsychologists who never took the time to double-check on the stories they were copying."Geoff Barker sent the following to the DBA Mailing List:
"Gods and Spacemen in Greece and Rome" by W. Raymond Drake (Sphere 1976) pages 115-116 quotes an Italian Alberto Fenoglio from "Clypeus" Anno 111, #2 (in turn quoting Giovanni Gustavo Droysen's "Storia di Alessandro il Grande") which Drake translates as:- "One day there appeared over the Macedonian camp these "flying shields", as they had been called, which flew in a triangular formation led by an exceedingly large one, the others were smaller by almost a half. The unknown chronicler narrates that they circled slowly over Tyre while thousands of warriors on both sides stood and watched them in astonishment. Suddenly from the largest "shield" came a lightening flash that struck the walls, these crumbled, other flashes followed and walls and towers dissolved, as if they had been built of mud, leaving the way open for the besiegers who poured like an avalanche through the breeches. The "flying shields" hovered over the city until it was completely stormed then they very swiftly disappeared aloft, soon melting into the blue sky". However, by the time of the Indian campaign the spaceships seem to have turned against Alexander. Drake quotes Frank Edwards (in "Stranger than Science" by Pan Books) who quotes an undisclosed source and claims:- ". tells of two strange craft that dived repeatedly at his (Alexanders) army until the war elephants, the men and the horses all panicked and refused to cross the river where the incident occurred. What did the things look like? His historian describes them as great shining silvery shields, spitting fire around the rims. things that came from the skies and returned to the skies" ( Invention of Alberto Fenoglio or Frank Edwards? )9. It makes exciting reading, "In the year 22 of the 3rd month of winter, sixth hour of the day...the scribes of the House of Life found it was a circle of fire that was coming in the sky... It had no head, the breath of its mouth had a foul odor. Its body one rod long and one rod wide. It had no voice. Their hearts became confused through it; then they laid themselves on their bellies... they went to the Pharaoh... to report it. His Majesty ordered... [an examination of] all which is written in the papyrus rolls of the House of life. His majesty was meditating upon what happened. Now after some days had passed, these things became more numerous in the skies than ever. They shone more in the sky than the brightness of the sun, and extended to the limits of four supports of the heavens... Powerful was the position of the fire circles. The army of the Pharaoh looked on with him in their midst. It was after supper. Thereupon, these fire circles ascended higher in the sky towards the south... The Pharaoh caused incense to be brought to make peace on the hearth... and what happened was ordered by the Pharaoh to be written in the annals of the House of life... so that it be remembered for ever." [Brinsley Le Poer Trench, "The Flying Saucer Story", pp. 81-82.] But Hatch writes that this is discreditied: "1585 BC? The famous TULLI PAPYRUS of Pharaoh Thutmose III. ( which nobody can find ) A gross distortion of mis-translated document, hastily copied from an fractured relic offered at an excessive price by an Egyptian "Antiquarian" in the 1930s. Even the script was from the wrong Egyptian era."

NASA was formed Oct 1, 1958 )

14. "On 6 May, (1945)... a woman named Elsie Mitchell and five children were on a Fishing trip near Bly, Oregon. One of them found a strange object on the ground and the others went to investigate. Suddenly the object exploded, killing all six. First news reports said it was a blast of "unannounced cause". Actually, the object had been a Japanese bomb that had traveled across the Pacific on a hydrogen-filled balloon. Though it remained a tightly-guarded secret for a time, the Mitchell's had been the victims of the first intercontinental air attack on this country. Since early November, 1944 the Japanese had been launching these "balloon bombs" - layered silk-like bags with clusters of incendiary bombs and explosives attached to them." - triplenickle.com.
