Out of 719 listings worldwide for 1973, 383 were in North America, mostly in the Eastern half of the USA. Contrast this map with 1947 or 1952. "Quiet" states are suddenly busy, and vice versa. Pennsylvania is blanketed while New York looks oddly vacant. Florida slows as Georgia and Mississippi join the wave. Note Ohio and Southeast Missouri. Sightings in the West are few and scattered, New Mexico almost looks neglected. Some states and Canadian Provinces show no sightings at all.
