The Great Pyramid
Mysterious Places: Giza
Created 4/28/2003 - Updated 5/1/2003

Originally 45.75 m (481 ft) high, it was the tallest structure on Earth for more than 43 centuries. The Great Pyramid in Giza Egypt consists of approximately 2 million blocks of stone, each weighing more than two tons. What was the purpose of this amazing structure? When, how and by whom was it built?

A Worthy Mystery

Debate on the Great Pyramid is centuries old and passions run deep. Reasonable persons must approach this great mystery with a clear head and an open mind. As with our Moon Conspiracy page, this chapter of the Reasonable Person's Guide to Strange Ideas will evolve slowly so check back as we work.

Is the Great Pyramid a Tomb?

YES: The current mainstream belief is that the Great Pyramid at Giza was the intended tomb of King Khufu (aka Cheops). Other pyramids in the area were created as tombs. 1

NO: No body has been found in the Great Pyramid. Unlike with smaller pyramids in the area, there is no mummy. No known treasures and no carved hieroglyphs have yet been found.
