The entire decade of the 1980s was slow, with no clearly defined waves. Out of 1759 listings worldwide, 889 were in North America, 852 of these in the USA. There are few reports from Canada and Mexico. Concentrations are partly due to regional UFO groups and writers. Note the Florida panhandle, Puget Sound, the Hudson Valley, Indiana, western Pennsylvania, and two separate parts of California. A broad band of sightings extends from the Great Lakes down to eastern Texas. There seems to be a line running South from the western Carolinas to Tampa, Florida. Compare this map with the 1990s .
