Sightings here are shown as 3-pixel white marks for visibility. While all 1947 events are shown, the vast majority took place in July alone. The size of this wave was as unprecedented as it was unexpected. Terms like "great airship" and "ghost rockets" fell by the wayside. The Flying Saucer age began with a bang. Note the string of sightings extending southeast from Washington State. Other groups and alignments as well as oddly "unvisited" areas, seem to invite speculation. New Mexico and southern Idaho are full of reports, but very few from upstate New York, or western Pennsylvania. California, as usual, takes part in any strange series of events.
