3/26/04 Mole Phone? (reuters | guardian | bbc ) What exactly were British military members doing when they got trapped for five days 120ft underground and had to be rescued from the Cueva Alpazat caves, which span 8.5 miles (13.68 km) near the town of Cuetzalan in central Puebla state in Mexico?

"( Mexican president Vicente ) Fox had asked on Wednesday for a "swift" explanation of what the foreign soldiers were doing in the cave complex, one of the most extensive in the world. Mexico does not allow foreign military exercises on its soil."

With British connections to al Qaeda (see next story) this could be pretty scary.

Caves can be used for all kinds of things. Storage, for example. I thought that these British military guys who got caught in the cave were just there as private citizens having some fun spelunking, but I guess not.

Some think they were looking for uranium. "Mexican authorities announced the entire 13-strong team, which includes the five military servicemen who were trapped, would be detained and questioned about possible breaches in visa laws. ... no equipment was recovered from the cave to suggest the Britons were on any kind of secret prospecting mission for uranium (and radon); one of the wilder rumours about the team's motives that circulated in the Mexican press. "

This contradicts that local media suggested Mexican officials were concerned the team had gas-detection equipment. Radon gas indicates the presence of uranium and the cavers may have been on a mineral-prospecting trip.

The British Ministry of Defence said the men were on a combined services adventure training expedition and not an exercise. A MoD spokesman dismissed uranium claims and said the men had gas detection gear for safety as radon is a dangerous gas found in limestone.

"The military personnel were named by local state authorities as Jonathan Sims, Charles Milton, Simon Cornhill, Chris Mitchell and Tony Hamnett, but the MoD will not confirm any names." - smh

The group "had a special "mole phone" which worked like a mobile phone but uses magnetic currents in the ground to transmit a signal." Obviously cell phones don't work underground. I had no idea this technology existed. One reference I found says the mole phone works several hundred meters through rocks.

Positive thinking: Caving is fun. Above is a great picture from a cave at Cuetzalan. There are many more worth seeing here. I'd like to try a mole phone next time I go caving. Can't seem to find any on line, however.

3/23/04 Vote Fraud. Someone sent me this flash animation summary of the Florida election theft.

Happy thought: There is an existing solution to the above problem: TruVote has a machine and a system that provides a paper trail, easy voting, and verification after the vote. Banks use the same type of system every day! Verified voting for every American who chooses to vote is possible. We have the technology to defeat vote fraud! We only have to insist on it.

3/23/04 Wars. ( asiatimes | pravda ) China is ready to invade Taiwan. The two are in an arms race. China has nearly 500 missiles targeted at Taiwan.

Happy thoughts: war and needless death may always be averted by the personal courage of leaders to open their minds to peaceful solutions.

3/22/04 Protests. (sfindymedia) This saturday, all over the world, people protested the war in Iraq.

The above is from the protest in San Francisco. There were many
more in other cities. There were even some arrests (photo below).

3/22/04 (washpost | seattletimes ) Militant Quadriplegic Killed. I read today "the state of Israel" used a U.S. Apache helicopter gunship to fire missiles to kill a half blind and deaf paralyzed man in a wheelchair named Yassin. Yassin was the spiritual leader of a group called Hamas. According to the Washington Post,

"Yassin, who had been paralyzed from the neck down since an athletic accident at age 17, was killed early Monday by a barrage of three Israeli missiles about 100 yards from his house as he was being wheeled home from morning prayers at a local mosque.

The attack prompted condemnation across Europe and the Middle East. U.S. officials were more circumspect. Several noted that Hamas has been labeled a terrorist organization by the United States."

Killing a Quadriplegic from a helicopter with missiles? You sick violent bastards. By "you" I don't mean "jews". I'm not prejudiced against any group of people, just the individuals who commit murder. I don't care what your religon is. Anyone who committs murder must be held accountable. What part of "Thou Shalt not Kill" don't you understand? This barbaric fear-based violence is contrary to international law and must be punished. Not with more violence, but by legally finding out who is responsible, using international pressure, removing them from power and having a fair trial.

The war in the middle-east is a two headed black spider spitting a sticky web. The spider is fighting itself, screeching in pain and rage as it bites off its own legs while trying to pull the rest of the world into its death battle. Scoop up the whole thing, sand and all, and put it on another planet. Mars, perhaps. Let Mars be the planet of war, and Earth be the planet of peace. That's my wish.

Others who wish for war--to qunch a demonic bloodlust or to lower the population--may now use this as a spark to set off attacks in the US.

"militants pledged unprecedented retaliation - including threats against the United States. " - ap

Some say Bush is in on this since US leaders have provided at least $91 billion in aid to Israel including military weapons (yes, including missiles). Bush has called Sharon (photo) a "man of peace". Mr. Bush, your 'man of peace' just blew a man to pieces. Not very peaceful. The Whitehouse says they were not informed before the strike.

If we had another big terror attack in the US, the neocon plan may be to suspend the constitution (and the next elections) and to take over the country with a military government ... for our own protection.

Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 "Gen. Tommy Franks says that if the United States is hit with a weapon of mass destruction that inflicts large casualties, the Constitution will likely be discarded in favor of a military form of government."

3/22/04 Politics (informationclearinghouse | CNN ) Why protest the Bush wars? Have you heard the stories of mass graves in Iraq? I hear this on talk radio from time to time. People call up and say Bush had to go to war to remove Saddam, because of the mass graves. Saddam was killing people and dumping them in mass graves! Right, lets have a policy where any leader in charge of a country that permits such a thing is thrown in jail. Agreed? Okay, now say, "Good-bye Bush."

Consider award-winning Irish filmmaker Jamie Doran's report that says the US was involved in mass slaughter and mass graves in Afghanistan after the siege of Kunduz. Doran worked for over seven years at BBC Television and his films have been broadcast on virtually every major channel throughout the world.

"The film provides eyewitness testimony that U.S. troops were complicit in the massacre of thousands of Taliban prisoners during the Afghan War.

It tells the story of thousands of prisoners who surrendered to the US military's Afghan allies after the siege of Kunduz. According to eyewitnesses, some three thousand of the prisoners were forced into sealed containers and loaded onto trucks for transport to Sheberghan prison. Eyewitnesses say when the prisoners began shouting for air, U.S.-allied Afghan soldiers fired directly into the truck, killing many of them. The rest suffered through an appalling road trip lasting up to four days, so thirsty they clawed at the skin of their fellow prisoners as they licked perspiration and even drank blood from open wounds.

Witnesses say that when the trucks arrived and soldiers opened the containers, most of the people inside were dead. They also say US Special Forces re-directed the containers carrying the living and dead into the desert and stood by as survivors were shot and buried. Now, up to three thousand bodies lie buried in a mass grave.

The film has sent shockwaves around the world. It has been broadcast on national television in Britain, Germany, Italy and Australia. It has been screened by the European parliament. It has outraged human rights groups and international human rights lawyers. They are calling for investigation into whether U.S. Special Forces are guilty of war crimes.

According to CNN, General Tommy Franks, commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, supports an investigation into this.

3/18/2004: Neocons: (moveon) Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld caught blatantly contradicting past statements. See the video. Rumsfeld is a guy whose lies (misbeliefs if you are being kind) got people killed.

Rumsfeld says, "You and a few other .... critics are the only people I've heard use the phrase 'immediate threat'. I didn't. The president didn't."

(Watch his hands moving as he says this. He know's he's in trouble.)

"And uh... it's become kind of folklore that that's what's happened." He is next presented with two quotes where he himself used the phrase 'immediate threat':

"No terror state poses a greater or more immediate threat to the security of our people and the stability of the world than the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq" - Donald Rumsfeld, September 18, 2002.

He stammers, "Uh, my view of the situation was that ... he had .. we we believe.. the best intelligence..." The important thing to note is the propaganda at the beginning. He starts by saying that his critics are spreading unsubstantiated folklore. He is so confident, so convincing, so lying and so caught.

Weapons of Mass Deception

3/16/2004: Elections: (Wired ) The 2003 Word Wars: Kerry has now claimed the democratic nomination. He is already fighting hard months before the fight usually starts. The media is doing a respectable job (finally) of reporting both sides of the fight.

Suprise Kidney Punch: Kerry says he's met with some foreign leaders who are currently working with the Bush administration and these leaders privately tell him Bush has got to go. ( Tactic: Erode confidence, strike at morale. Use Bush secrecy tactics against itself. )

Block and Counter Attack: Bush and his camp say Kerry must name names or he is lying. ( Smear response. Not so effective. Seems like bullying, as if Bush wants the names so he can strike back at those leaders. This makes Kerry seem to be telling the truth. By the same logic the Bush camp would be lying every time it refuses to name sources. )

Both of these guys have ruthless propaganda teams with large bags of nasty tricks. This is a knock down bona fide war of words. Sit back and enjoy the ride! You may never see anything like this again. I hate to say it, but I think I will enjoy watching them eat each other alive. Watch out for Nader popping up to slam these guys as they fight it out.

3/16/2004: Neocons: (LATimes | asahai | abc ) The Bush-Neocon party may be winding up.

WASHINGTON President Bush today urged allies not to pull their troops from Iraq, but his plea was not enough to keep another coalition member from announcing that it, like Spain, would withdraw forces...

After the bombings in Spain and an election, Spain now has a new socialist government that thinks the war in Iraq was a bad idea. Spain is pulling its troops out. As of today, 666 American soldiers have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. This does not include those who kill themselves after returning home.

WASHINGTON, March 16 (UPI) -- A Colorado-based Army Special Forces soldier back from Iraq shot himself in the head in his front yard Sunday night, according to police -- at least the seventh soldier who has committed suicide after serving there. - upi

3/16/2004: War Trauma : (upi | greenleft ) After experiencing the horrors of war it is a normal human reaction to experience mental distress. Some sooner, some later. In one case, "after seeing the body of a mangled Iraqi" ( a kid for all we know) Staff Sgt. Georg-Andreas Pogany froze up and was "charged (by the Army) with cowardice, which is punishable by death."

That's not cool. Are our brave US soldiers really under a death threat to be brave?

I understand that guys who freeze up or freak out put others at risk, but it is bad manners to shoot your own guys who snap. This is like saying, "Kill for us or we will kill you." See: Combat Stress Control, Shell Shock, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Since like it or not we will have American troops returning with problems, here are some behaviors to watch for in your friends and loved ones who have been at war (from vnh):

DYSFUNTIONAL COMBAT STRESS BAHAVIORS

"BATTLE FATIGUE" Hyper alertness, "on edge" Tension, Anxiety, Fear Irritability, Anger, Rage, Grief, Self doubt, Guilt, Physical stress complaints, Inattention, Carelessness Loss of confidence, hope Loss of Faith; Fatalism Depression, Insomnia, Impaired duty performance, Erratic actions, outbursts; Freezing, immobility; Terror, panic, running; Total exhaustion, apathy; Loss of skills & memories; Impaired speech, muteness; Impaired vision, hearing; Weakness & paralysis; Hallucinations, delusions.
"MISCONDUCT CSB" Mutilating enemy dead, Not taking prisoners, Killing enemy prisoners, Killing non-combatants, Torture, brutality, Killing animals, Fighting with allies, Alcohol & drug abuse, Recklessness, undisciplined, Looting, pillage, rape, Improper fraternization, Excessively on sick call, Negligent disease, injury, Shirking, malingering, Combat refusal, straggling, Self-inflicted wounds, Threatening/killing own leaders ("fragging") Going AWOL, desertion.
POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) Intrusive painful memories, "flashbacks" Trouble sleeping, bad dreams Social isolation, withdrawal, alienation Jumpiness, startle responses, anxiety Guilt about things done or not done Alcohol or drug misuse, misconduct.

3/12/2004: Taxes: Are they legal? Many web sites, for many reasons, claim income taxes are illegal. Before you risk tax evasion, take a look at this page. It seems to be one attorney's notes to refute all of the major tax protester arguments. Then again, if enough people get upset enough, things CAN change. Remeber the Boston Tea Party?

3/11/2004: Spain: I'm sad and angry to hear about the terror attacks in Spain today.

.

3/11/2004: 9-11 Questions: US Government grinding to a halt due to calls, faxes, and email demanding answers to the unanswered questions. Participate now, it is working!

"There are six individuals who have the power to influence whether President George Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, General Richard Myers, will publicly testify under oath before the American people..."

"We are witnessing a miracle. Thanks to journalist Tom Flocco (who has previously written for FTW ) and Bill Douglas of the 911visibility.org the offices of key political leaders ducking the biggest 9/11 questions are being gridlocked. They include:

House Speaker Dennis Hastert
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist
Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle
9/11 National Commission Chairman Thomas Kean
Presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee John Kerry

Since I started researching on 9-11, I've found the unanswered questions compelling and worthy of serious replies.

3/11/2004: Zimbabwe: (Smh | allafrica | upi | mathaba ) MYSTERY PLANE. Zimbabwe threatens to execute detained mercenaries. A Boeing 727 carrying 64 mercinaries and "military material" (but no guns, or where there?) was captured in Zimbabwe which says the US, UK and Spain sent the mercenaries.

"Zimbabwe today threatened to execute some 60 suspected mercenaries detained this week and accused US, British and Spanish spy agencies of involvement in a plot to topple Equatorial Guinea's government."

The plane with registration number N4610 was originally a commercial PanAm Airways aircraft operated up until a week ago by the American Air Force according to NationNews.com, a news site based in Barbados where the plane stopped to refuel. The same article claims the plane arrived there from the Hope Air Force Base in North Carolina. Kansas-based Dodson Aviation Inc. owned the plane at one time, according to news24, but a Dodson official claimed to have "sold the plane about a week ago to an African company called Logo Ltd." The cnsnews says,

"One of several dozen registered companies using the word "Logo" is "Logo Security," whose business is given as "Investigation and security activities." An address near Pretoria is provided, but South African telephone service operator could find no phone number. "

In Washington, Powell said, "I saw the same reports you did about this plane that suddenly showed up and everybody, of course, [said] it must be the Americans doing something. We know nothing about the plane."

Spain planned to make a formal complaint to Zimbabwe, and associates of the men said they were innocent mine guards swept up in a bizarre misunderstanding.

Oil wars? In 1979 President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo (Obiang for short) took power from his uncle of Equatorial Guinea. In a world that is running out of oil you can expect all kinds of dirty deeds and deception as those in the know fight over the last drops. Last year Equatorial Guinea pumped 350,000 barrels per day. Obiang recently claimed that "foreign countries and multinational companies had conspired to replace him with an exiled politician living in Spain."

"Equatorial Guinea announced on Tuesday that it had arrested 15 alleged mercenaries, including several South Africans, who, it claimed, were an advance party for the 64 men being held in Zimbabwe." - allafrica

Paranoia or plot?

.

3/11/2004: Spain: (smh | bbc ) The 411 on the Spanish 9-11, on 3-11. Just when the Zimbabwe mystery plane story might blow up politically for the Axis of Those who Fight the Axis of Evil, (UK, Spain & USA) there is a huge distracting terror attack in Spain which kills 192 and is dubbed the Spanish 9-11. Today happens to be 3-11. Watch out for those elevens.

Abdel Bari Atwan, a London-based Arabic language daily newspaper editor was certain that an email to his paper was authentic (why?) in which the "Brigade of Abu Hafs al-Masri" claimed responsibility for the mass murders "acting in the name of al-Qaida." Atwan also claims to know that Osama Bin Laden is alive and is back in control of al Qaida according to CNN. He also had a hand-written letter from Saddam Husein according to ABC. Atwan also had warnings before the attacks of 9-11:

In August, there was another warning of an "unprecedented" attack sent to an Arabic newspaper, says editor Abdel Bari Atwan. "Like other Arabic newspapers we receive warning and information - people over the phone saying that, look there is something big will happen," says Bari Atwan

Atwan is a key information source in many different cases. Interesting to hear what he thinks of different things such as the israeli-palestinian conflict, for example.

What does al-Qaida have to do with Spain anyway? We read that an al-Qaida cell in Spain was charged with aiding the attack of 9-11 on the USA and one member of the al-Qaida cell, the "lone native Spaniard in the group, Luis Jose Galan Gonzalez, whose alias is Yusuf Galan" was linked to the ETA which some in Spain blamed for the train bombings today. Others think not. One thing is certain, when things like this happen in Spain, the value of the US dollar falls. Those in the know might mess around with their swiss bank accounts or gold purchases to make money.

3/10/2004: Bush: Iraq Front page of the Sacramento Bee says "Pentagon bypassed CIA on Iraq". Uh, yeah. We told you that here on 2/16/04, about a month ago.

3/10/2004: Kerry: (NYTimes) The NY Times says Kerry's biggest supporters gave more to Bush. Was Kerry put forward by the Bush strategists to kick out the people who would change the country? (Dean, Sharpton, Kucinich, Nader).

3/10/2004: Elections: (HowStuffWorks) How do the democratic primaries work anyway? I don't understand how Kerry took the lead. Do they make speeches and then the delegates decide which one they like best? Here's something about it, but I still don't get it. Regarding the Iowa caucus system, "The Democrats have a more complex system -- in fact, it's one of the most complex pieces of the entire presidential election."

A reader wrote with this explanation: (some quote, some paraphrased from email). I feel like I understand it better and it seems more legit after reading this.

People meet at their local district poling place (usually a school gymnasium) for their local caucus. Caucus organizers put signs on the wall in the corners and one out in the middle of the room for those undecided. At a certain time, the doors are closed and locked (i.e., no stuffing the ballot box). They take a head count and ask participants to go the candidate area of their choice. Organizers then conduct a head count of each group, often recording the info in no more a sophistocated manner than writing it on a yellow legal pad.

Any candidate groups that do not have at least 15% of the total participants present are asked to disperse and choose another group or abstain. There is a lot of energy, a lot of mixing and convincing that go on to try and coax people into your group.

Eventually, final head counts are made and the percentage of people total in each candidate group is tallied. Then people in each group are asked to choose someone to serve as their delegate. This person is then registered and given information as to where the county caucus is held, goes there and 'votes' again for their candidate.

As a delegate, they cannot change their 'vote' because they represent others who are counting on them. Therefore, each person represents X number of people and their 'vote'.

Whereas local district caususes are comprised of citizens who coose a delegate, the county and state caucuses consist of groups of delegates and groups of delegates of delegates, respectively. State caucus results are tallied in number of delegates regionally and then over the state. The person with the most delegates in the end is the winner. It's kind of zany. No other state does it this way; they all have primaries (mock elections). Iowans like this system, and it really is more participatory than primaries and it's kind of fun.

3/9/2004: Bush: Plamegate (IndyMediaTv | Newsday ) Transcript: Days before outing, Wilson was target of White House. Summary for those living under a rock:

- January 28, 2003: In speech, Bush claims that "the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

- March 20, 2003: US invades Iraq and starts killing people to save them from Saddam. Much death happens. Much maiming. For example, a US missile blows the arms off of a 12 year old boy named Ali Abbas.

- June 12, 2003: Walter Pincus revealed in the Washington Post that an unnamed retired diplomat had given the CIA a negative report.

- July 6, 2003: New York Times publishes Wilson's first hand account showing Bush's claim is BS. Bush looks really bad for lying in his State of the Union Address.

" ... efforts to discredit Wilson came after he went public July 6 with criticism of President George W. Bush for mentioning the uranium rumor in January 2003 in his State of the Union address which helped make a case for the Iraq war. In the subpoenaed July 12 transcript of a briefing in Nigeria, then-press secretary Ari Fleischer called Wilson a "lower-level official" and said Wilson had made flawed and incomplete statements."

- July 14, 2003: Robert Novak's column identifies CIA officer Valerie Plame.

- A federal grand jury is still investigating who leaked the identity of a covert CIA operative to Novak and others.

We know that some senior official in Bush's White House did it. It is possible that outing Wilson's wife could have resulted in her murder in the foreign country she was operating in. It is a federal crime to out a CIA agent. Bush claims to want to know who the leak is. If so, why does he refuse to have his staff sign sworn statements that they were not the leak, a sure way to find out who did it? Of course, the journalists who were leaked to know the answer. Some say it was President George Bush's closest political adviser, Karl Rove. Wilson may have jumped the gun and retracted his accusation of Rove. Someone in the White House did it. Why is the criminal still "in da house?"

Freedom of speech, you are the apple of my eye.

3/6/2004: 9-11 Questions: (NY Post | Reuters ) Court Tosses 9/11 Trial Verdict: German retrial ordered because U.S. didn't make a key witness available. KARLSRUHE, Germany - A high court overturned the verdict Thursday for the only person convicted in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and ordered a new trial, citing the lack of testimony from an al-Qaida operative in U.S. custody. A Moroccan (photo) named Mounir el Motassadeq was found guilty last year and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for being an accessory to more than 3,000 counts of murder in New York, at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. So, as of this writing, no one has yet been convicted of the attacks of 9/11. El Motassadeq, 29, remains in the Hamburg prison.

Bush's new political ads feature images from the attacks of 9/11. This has incensed and hurt some families of victims and groups of firefighters. Critics call them "unconscionable," "inappropriate" and "in poor taste." Scott McClellan, the White House Press Secretary defended the ads.

3/6/2004: Insider Trading: (timesofindia | bushwatch | worldnetdaily ) Martha Stewart was found guilty on all counts of insider trading. "... in December 2001 when she suddenly sold shares in ImClone Systems, a drug company run by her friend Sam Waksal. ImClone had been planning to bring a miracle cancer drug into the market, but an adverse government ruling caused its shares, pumped up in anticipation of drug's release, to collapse. By selling the shares ahead of the news allegedly because of an insider tip, the billionairess saved $50,000. "

Why is insider trading a crime for Martha but not for Bush?

"Documents Show Bush Violated SEC Insider Trading Law Four Times, Not Once. His Lawyer Ran The SEC Investigation On Late Harken Report And His Father's Gave The SEC Clearance Of Wrongdoing During Bush Presidency. ... One key trade just a few weeks before Iraq invaded Kuwait -- but reported some eight months late after the Gulf War was over -- netted Bush close to $1 million in profit as he sold stock in Harken Energy, an oil company doing business in the Middle East wherein some of his father's largest contributors also maintained substantial positions."

Who is above the law?

3/3/2004: Elections: (boston) Here are the results of the 2004 democratic primaries. Kucinich was the only democratic candidate who voted against the Patriot Act. Assuming no vote fraud, he came in third. Not bad for the most liberal democrat. Now Kerry has to beat Bush. Major polls say both Kerry and Edwards would beat Bush. Some think Bush will find a way to suspend the election ( terrorist attack? War? ) or steal it ... again.

Democratic Presidential Primaries and Caucuses
March 2, commonly referred to as "Super Tuesday," is the busiest day of the 2004 presidential primary season. California, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont hold Democratic primaries, while caucuses are conducted in Minnesota. More than 1,150 delegates are tied to the March 2 races.

3/2/2004: Elections: (boston) Vote today in the primaries! Don't forget! Turnout of 700,000 expected for Democratic primary in Massachusetts. VOTE! And remember, all you have to control is the people who count the vote in order to control an election. Read blackboxvoting, votefraud.org, conspire, etc. Computer voting with no paper trail is worthless! Remember when the COO from Dibold (vote machine company and the second largest manufacturer of ATMs in the world ) died in a small plane crash? Dibold has the ability to produce voting machines with a paper trail. ATMs do it every day. You even get a printout when you buy gas. You should get a printout when you vote. We all should. Why not demand it?

3/2/2004: 9-11 Questions: Fighters were not scrambled and when they were, they flew at under 1/2 speed and from bases too far away to stop the attacks. Why? Was there a "stand down" order? Was Bush Sr. meeting with Osama Bin Laden's brother on 9/11? Some people/groups seemed to know in advance. When all other air traffic was grounded, Bush flew members of Bin Laden's family out of the country on private jets. Why will Bush Jr. only meet for 1 hour with with selected members of the investigative committee? Were no terrorists on the planes? Why do some say no jet hit the Pentagon? Warning: conspiracy stuff can tweak you out. Keep perspective by considering all sides. There are good people in our government. There are also some skunks. Vote 'em out. Rock the vote.
