12/21/2005 Politics. Wiretap Mystery: Spooks React

"A few current and former signals intelligence guys have been checking in since this NSA domestic spying story broke. Their reactions range between midly (sic) creeped out and sigintcompletely pissed off. All of the sigint specialists emphasized repeatedly that keeping tabs on Americans is way beyond the bounds of what they ordinarily do -- no matter what the conspiracy crowd may think. " - deftech

Congress is angry because Bush/Cheney may be spying on political opponents as well as potential terrorists. Who would ever know if they misused the system?

One more in a long line of reasons to impeach. Because all politicians are corruptible we must always have checks and balances.

"Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so." -- George Bush, April 20, 2004. - whitehouse.gov

"That was false, and he knew it at the time. A few days ago Bush personally admitted to overseeing wiretaps without any court orders." - democrats

12/14/2005 Politics. Bush: we went to war on faulty intelligence.

"President Bush has admitted for the first time that his decision to go to war in Iraq was based on faulty intelligence. bushBut he still said that the decision to remove Saddam Hussein had been "the right one". " - timesonline

Faulty? The fault ( on one level, from what I've read ) was actually in the Bush administration's decision to bypass the intelligence. They set up the Office of Special Plans (OSP) which cherry picked to get the pre-determined result they wanted... war.

"In an interview with the Scottish Sunday Herald, former CIA officer Larry Johnson said the OSP was "dangerous for US national security and a threat to world peace. [The OSP] lied and manipulated intelligence to further its agenda of removing Saddam. It's a group of ideologues with pre-determined notions of truth and reality. They take bits of intelligence to support their agenda and ignore anything contrary. They should be eliminated." (Mackay, 2003)" - wiki

12/9/2005 Politics. Bush on the Constitution: 'It's just a ... piece of paper'

Bush retorted. “I'm the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.” “Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.” “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It's just a goddamned piece of paper!” I've talked to three people present for the meeting that day and they all confirm that the President of the United States called the Constitution “a goddamned piece of paper.”" - caphillblue

"[Doug] Thompson's work has appeared in a number of publications, including Esquire, Life, Look, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Paris Match, AFP , the Associated Press and Reuters" - savea

Looks legit. Not written as fiction. Someone in the press should verify this. Ask Bush if he said it. He did take an oath after all. The renewed Patriot Act does not preserve and protect the constitution. Bush is, therefore, in violation of his oath for supporting it. If he believes the constitution is just a piece of paper then he is just a man walking around the White House, not our president.

12/2/2005 Politics / Technology / Earth / Materials. 765 Kg of Plutonium Missing from Los Alamos?

"One hundred fifty bombs' worth of plutonium has not been accounted for and may be plutomissing from ... Los Alamos National Laboratory located in New Mexico, acording to an evnvironmental watchdog organization ... the Institude for Energy and Environmental Research. ... Bernie Pleau, a representative of the ... Site Office, denied the report's allegations. "We can confidently say that we're not missing [765] kilograms of any nuclear material" -see comdr

Doh! If nearly 1,700 lbs of this stuff was used for some secret US purpose, shouldn't there still be some record of it being diverted to special research or something? A fringe possibility is that it was converted into something else or was made to disappear or change mass. If this sounds impossible, perhaps it is, but consider the odd story of David Hudson, a cotton farmer.

12/2/2005 Politics. Word wars: The Pentagon's "information operations" program in Iraq

"The U.S. military command in Baghdad acknowledged for the first time yesterday that it has psyopspaid Iraqi newspapers to carry positive news about U.S. efforts in Iraq, but officials characterized the payments as part of a legitimate campaign to counter insurgents' misinformation."

... Officials said one unanswered question they have is whether the [ Washington-based ] Lincoln Group intentionally misled newspapers by presenting the articles as freelance journalism, obscuring the fact that the material came from U.S. armed forces."

Laurie Adler, a spokeswoman for the company [said] "We counter the lies, intimidation, and pure evil of terror with factual stories that highlight the heroism and sacrifice of the Iraqi people and their struggle for freedom and security." - washpost

Don't act surprised. The Feb 19, 2002 NY Times reported on the Pentagon's Office of Strategic Influence (OSI). It was disclosed years ago that the OSI was "developing plans to provide news items, possibly even false ones, to foreign media organizations" in an effort "to influence public sentiment and policy makers in both friendly and unfriendly countries." So, the Pentagon sort of announced, "We're going to be doing some lying." People got mad and the OSI was shut down, at least in name. Rumsfeld said, however, "You can have the name, but I'm gonna keep doing every single thing that needs to be done..." Do lies need to be done? Here is a video of Rumsfeld caught lying. Once you start with deception, do you stop? When did you start? Follow the trail back to another man who sold the war: See Rolling Stone. "There was only one problem: It was all a lie." It is possible that Rumsfeld, knowing what he knows, believes that to save the country in the future he must now lie to support a war that results in US control of the Middle East. That's my guess.
