12/31/2005 Earth. Massive Crack Opens In Earth In Texas
This is one I missed. It was reported back in June of this year (2005).
" CLAUDE, TX -- A massive crack in the earth opened up last week in Claude, Texas and it's creating a stir among geologists. Geologists said Tuesday the crack was a joint in the earth's crust. They believe the opening is the result of a weak point in the joint where one spot slips away from the other. Some parts measure more than 30-feet deep and it drained what used to be a pond. Experts say earth cracks are common but the size of the crack in Claude is not." - fcn

12/13/2005 Earth / Quakes. Powerful earthquakes strike under sea near Fiji
"Two powerful undersea earthquakes struck within seconds near Fiji on Tuesday, geologists said, and officials issued a tsunami alert for the local area. No damage or injuries were immediately reported. The first quake, with a magnitude of 6.3, occurred at 3:16 p.m. (0846 GMT) about 255 kilometers northeast of Vanua Levu the main tourist spot in Fiji's chain of islands, at a depth of 29 kilometers, the US Geological Survey reported.
Seconds later, a magnitude 6.8 aftershock struck nearby, about 760 km west of Apia, the capital of neighbouring Samoa, the survey said. The second quake was much deeper, at 166 km beneath the ocean floor. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a bulletin that said there was no Pacific-wide threat of a destructive tsunami..." - manor
11/26/2005 Earth. Seas rising twice as fast, highest CO2 levels in 650,000 years.
"Sea levels around the world are rising twice as fast as they were 150 years ago because of human-induced global warming, US scientists say in a study released on Thursday. ... In a separate study published in the same issue, European researchers found that today's atmospheric carbon dioxide is at the highest level in 650,000 years.
.. Today's rising CO2 concentrations are 27 percent higher than at the highest level seen over the 650,000-year time scale, according to the study, which also appears in Science ." - tptimes
No problem. Everything happens in cycles. After 18,000 more years of warming we will cycle back into some nice cool weather. In the meantime, we will adapt. We always have.

"Water supplies in Harbin , home to [3.8 million] people, were cut off last night [Nov
22] and will not resume “until further notice”. ... a massive explosion at the Jilin Petroleum and Chemical Company plant in the city of Jilin on November 13. ... released highly toxic substances, killing at least five people and forcing the evacuation of more than 10,000 nearby residents.
It also contaminated the partially frozen Songhua River with benzene and phenyl, which can lead to hepatitis, urinary tract diseases and possibly cancer. ..." - asianews
"The explosion, which forced the evacuation of 10,000 people, was blamed on human error in a tower that processed benzene. In neighboring Russia, news reports said concern was growing over the pollution threat in the border city of Khabarovsk, about 435 miles downriver from Harbin. The benzene stretches some 50 miles along the river, with levels at some places 30 times the acceptable standard, the official Xinhua News Agency said. It said the chemical was expected to reach Harbin early today and should be gone by Saturday. Yesterday Harbin was drilling 100 wells that were expected to produce 21 million gallons of water per day." - boston
This is big. Imagine a population perhaps twice the size of Sacramento without water for several days. Reminder: You should store (and rotate) 14 gallons of bottled water for each family member. This gives you the recommended gallon per person per day for two weeks.
11/30/2005 Earth / Technology / Paranoia. A surprising aurora ... three years ago.
"This aurora was a bit of a surprise. For starters, on this Friday morning in August 2002, no intense auroral activity was expected at all."...
Possibly more surprising, however, the aurora appeared to show an usual structure of green rays from some locations. In the above image, captured from North Dakota, USA, a picket fence of green rays stretches toward the horizon. Mirroring the green rays is a red band, somewhat rare in its own right. Lights from the cities of Bismarck and Mandan are visible near the horizon." - nasa.gov
Could HAARP, the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, be somehow responsible? There may be no connection, but the Russians were complaining about HAARP in August 2002.

The Duma published a critical report on HAARP written by the international affairs and defense committees, signed by 90 deputies and presented to President Vladimir Putin. On January 4 , 2002 Michel Chossudovsky, Professor of Economics, University of Ottawa reported:
"Recent scientific evidence suggests that HAARP is fully operational and has the ability of potentially triggering floods, droughts, hurricanes and earthquakes. From a military standpoint, HAARP is a weapon of mass destruction. 11/6/2005 Earth / Disasters. Twister shreds Indiana towns.
"The deadliest tornado to strike Indiana in 31 years killed at least 22 people Sunday, most of them sleeping in a mobile home park near Evansville that took a direct hit. The twister hit with little warning about 2 a.m. and destroyed hundreds of homes, businesses and churches along a 20-mile path on both sides of the Ohio River. way over the next five days.
At 5 A.M., a reconnaissance aircraft reported that Wilma set a record for hurricane intensity in the Atlantic, as the minimum atmospheric pressure of the powerhouse dropped to 884 millibars. Generally, the lower the pressure in the storm, the more intense the hurricane ... Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the Gulf Coast, was measured at 902 millibars at its peak strength. " - washpost

Unfortunately for the planet, however, we are still adding about three new people per second counting both births and deaths. That's 10,800 new people per hour... or 259,200 new people per day. In 45 years ( 2050 ) at the current rate, the Earth will be inhabited by 8.9 billion humans. The answer, of course, is not to kill off the existing people, just that we need to stop breeding so fast. Yeah, good luck with that. We do have a back up planet, don't we?

It is just a coincidence that 100's of millions of dollars were spent over nearly two decades by the US Defense Department on hurricane control projects like Stormfury and that Bush wants the US Defense Department to take complete control in the event of a large hurricane.
The goal of Stormfury was to weaken hurricanes, not create them or control their direction. All of the DoD hurricane control projects failed and were eventually shut down. Even if they secretly succeeded, the Bush Neocons would never use their weather weapons. If they did ever use them, it would not be on Americans. Even if they did fear an uprising from the people ( of whom less than 1% now support his war -- if you look at this weekend's 100,000 anti war protesters vs 400 pro-war rally participants. )

Excellent. There is now offically one less thing to worry about in the world.
"Although horror films frequently depict victims disappearing in quicksand, the truth is much tamer. People cannot fully sink into this type of soil, and laboratory simulations now bear out this little-known fact.
Quicksand is simply ordinary sand that is so saturated with water that the friction between sand particles is reduced, making them unable to support any weight.
The probability that a person will be completely sucked into the sand, on the other hand, is nil. "The Hollywood version is just incorrect," says Thomas Zimmie, an expert in soil mechanics at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
"The real danger of quicksand is that you can get stuck in it when the high tides come up," says Bonn. But patience can be a life-saving virtue. If you wait long enough, the sand particles settle and the buoyancy of the mixture will cause you to rise up to the top. " - nature

Conservative talk show hosts are calling the idea that hurricanes are caused by global warming "Liberal Hysteria". Hm. Let's see.
- Hurricanes start in the North Atlantic ocean during June to November, the season when sea surface temperatures are highest. Is that hysteria? No, a matter of record.
- Hurricanes are driven by evaporation from the ocean surface. Is that hysteria? No. Just basic weather science after years of research and experience.
- Sea surface evaporation happens more when surface temperatures increase. Is that hysteria? No. Evaporation is a well understood process. Heat changes liquid water into vapor that rises.
- Sea surface temperatures (SST) have increased. Hysteria? No. The data is available to all.
" A recent study in Nature by Emanuel (2005) examined, for the first time, a statistical measure of the power dissipation associated with past hurricane activity (i.e., the "Power Dissipation Index" or "PDI"--Fig. 2). No wonder Bush made strange seemingly disconnected comments about a "sense of relaxation" and dodging a bullet regarding the massive death and devastation of Katrina. You see, if Katrina was caused by global warming, then for Bush, Katrina does not exist. How could Katrina exist if there is no such thing as global warming? It is all very simple. Oh, did you hear about the secret Pentagon report? The observer reports that the Pentagon has told Bush it predicts Britain will be 'Siberian' in less than 20 years and that climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives. The study by a CIA consultant also predicts mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

You don't want to be looking up Katrina's dress. She is death in the sky. If you see something like this coming, you are in the wong place, buddy. Go! You know that she will be more freaky than any tornado. She is the queen hurricane.

9/12/2005 Earth / Disasters. 25 Mind-Numbingly Stupid Quotes About Hurricane Katrina And Its Aftermath
I heard actual reports on NPR from people who were there and it was really sick. Armed guards kept desperate people inside the city.
To get a small group away from the police HQ, an officer swore to them that busses were on the way over at a bridge.
The small group headed toward the bridge and their numbers swelled. At the bridge armed guards shot at the group of 800 people to keep them from crossing into another city where they could get help. A fire fighter among the group trying to leave used his badge in order to surrender and communicate with the guards who told him the officer at the HQ had lied. There were no busses coming.
At a shelter, people were made to line up in the sun every four hours for busses that were not coming. Babies died from dehydration, many adults died walking to the busses when they FINALLY got there.
Rumors started that the national guard was going to shoot people. Water trucks were driving past the convention center filled with people who had not had water for a day and a half. The convention center was unbearable, filled with human waste. There was no place for women to lie with their babies at night due to the filth.
Some "dangerous gangs" of looting armed men were actually breaking into stores to get food and water and delivering it to the young and elderly. There were also police reports that gangs of men were dragging women off and gang raping them as well as tales of murder. According to the Sacramento Bee, Sunday:
"FEMA would not let the trucks unload... The drivers were stuck for several days on the side of the road about 10 miles from Camp Beauregard. FEMA said we had to have a 'tasker number.' What in the world is a tasker number? I have no idea. It's just paperwork, and it's ridiculous. ... We lost thousands of lives that could have been saved."

9/8/2005 Earth / Disaster CHP Patrolling Volatile Hurricane Neighborhoods
I heard there is a media black out of sorts. My sources in the area say they are evacuating the people who want to leave first to avoid armed conflicts. We are also hearing that some people are a bit nuts because they've run out of their meds.NEW ORLEANS, Calif. -- California Highway Patrol officers have arrived in hurricane-stricken New Orleans to help evacuate the remaining residents, but some don't want to leave.
Even though the rescue crews are trying to help the residents, they are being met with hostility. Within just two hours of their first patrol, one of the CHP crews was met with trouble. After a brief standoff, where CHP officers had their weapons drawn, several suspects were handcuffed, and a small cache of weapons were seized, including a Mac-10 submachine gun "It proves that there are a lot of guns out here. It is dangerous for us, and we just have to make sure that people understand (that) if they are going to carry weapons out here, we're going to be taking them into custody," said CHP spokesman Charles Chellew. With no jails available, the suspects were relocated then released. The crews said they've seen other homes riddled with bullets. The Louisiana State Police is relieved to have the CHP's help. "

I've been away, but I've been keeping up with the news. Some interesting Katrina related items:
- Unmanned drones with heat seeking technology were approved for use in the US to search from the sky for people still alive in buildings. (Here are some UAV videos)
"With thermal imaging capability ... you can actually see into the buildings and see the body image of a person still alive," Weldon, vice chairman of the House Armed Services and Homeland Security Committees, said. ... Once you've got them pinpointed you can send rescue teams in."
- Ant balls. Ants form balls and float around on the water to keep from drowning.
- I believe martial law has been declared.
- Today the order came to evacuate the city of New Orleans by force.
"THE mayor of New Orleans has authorised the police and military to forcibly evacuate thousands of residents who refuse to leave. ... "There are toxins in the water, gas leaks, we are fighting at least four fires... It is not safe." Police today said forcible evacuation was a last resort, adding that it would be a "PR nightmare". But police superintendent Edwin Compass said: "We'll do everything it takes to make this city safe. These people don't understand they're putting themselves in harm's way." Die-hard inhabitants of the city say they fear evacuation to parts of the country where they have no family or means of support. About 10,000 people are believed to be holding out."
- Another related story says "U.S. active-duty troops will not take part in a forced evacuation. Under the Posse Comitatus Act, active troops are not allowed to take part in law enforcement unless ordered to do so by the president in an extreme emergency."

" SCIENTISTS have explained for the first time how giant freak waves of 100ft or more can suddenly appear at sea with the potential to snap ships in two.
“Two large ships sink every week on average but the cause is never studied to the same detail as an air crash. It simply gets put down to ‘bad weather'.”
... Over a three-week period in 2001 the researchers found more than 10 individual giant waves higher than 82ft. Since the satellites could only sample the oceans rather than monitor them constantly, the real number was likely to be higher.
Dr Wolfgang Rosenthal, who led the MaxWave project, funded by the European Union, also collated data on ships being hit by such waves and found that over the period of the satellite research two tourist cruisers, the Bremen and Caledonian Star, had their bridge windows smashed by 98ft waves in the South Atlantic. "It's really quite an eerie sound to hear the earth ripping apart like that. We hear it on smaller earthquakes quite frequently but something of this scale that goes on for eight minutes is very much unprecedented," said Maya Tolstoy, a marine geophysicist at Columbia University's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
"It really gave me the chills when I first heard it," she said.
The dramatic soundtrack of the rupture of the Sumatra-Andaman Fault comes from a little known, and sometimes hard- to- access resource. The microphones that captured the sound are part of a global network of instruments that monitor compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.

An Ill Wind that Blows Back in our Faces?CNN reports, "An enormous cloud of dust is blowing toward the United States from the Sahara Desert in Africa, potentially creating spectacular sunrises and sunsets in Florida." African dust can trigger asthma in children according to a geologist and it reaches most states east of the Rocky Mts. (see video) . Here's a freaky thought:

TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A mysterious column of water vapor that shot a kilometer (3,300 feet) into the sky from the Pacific Ocean near Iwo Jima was likely caused by an underwater volcanic eruption, and ships should avoid the area, Japanese officials have said.
A coast guard crew flew over the area to try to determine what happened. Japan's Meteorological Agency said there was no danger of tsunami -- potentially killer waves sometimes caused by undersea seismic activity. Japanese troops stationed on Iwo Jima on Saturday reported seeing the massive, cloudy column rise from the sea about 50 kilometers (30 miles) southeast of the small island, said Maritime Self-Defense Forces spokesman Hiroshi Shirai. Iwo Jima is about 1,120 kilometers (700 miles) southeast of Tokyo.
"It's highly likely that it's caused by an eruption of an underwater volcano," coast guard spokesman Shigeyuki Sato said of the strange occurrence. "A similar eruption occurred in the area before."

Level 1: Know where to be during the quake.
Level 2: Be prepared with food, water, flashlights, etc.
Level 3: Have a personal floatation device, life raft, flare gun, water filter and food rations within arms reach at all times. You never know when California will fall into the ocean. Read this official USGS site's comment about California falling into the ocean. Will it really take about 15 million years until Los Angeles is a suburb of San Francisco, or might it happen faster?Of course, there is no truth to the rumor that what is really going on is Earthquake weapon warfare between the US and a certain unnamed foreign entity. There really are no scalar energy weapons, right?
4/13/2005 Earth. Free Stuff. Check out your local group at http://www.freecycle.org/. This is a site where people give stuff away. Membership is free. One person's junk is another's treasure. Keep stuff out of the landfills. You have to sign up for a free Yahoo account. Also, it takes a day or more to get approved into the group by the moderator. I'm still waiting.

The Moho was a no-show? Perhaps the Earth is VERY different inside than most people think? Some, for example, think the Earth is hollow. I think we may find entirely new forms of matter, liquid rock with properties we never imagined, such as unique gravity effects. Wild guess.

Interesting page with some interesting pictures, links and ideas. Be cautious. Read and ponder, but don't jump to conclusions. Stay skeptical. The Bearden info could be bogus, or it could be the real beans. He once wrote:

What is Tom saying? In a nutshell, when countries are at war, even cold wars, they will put out false information ( even bogus patents? ) to get other countries to waste money on dead end ideas. If country "A" thinks country "B" has a program working on "Simultaneous dudding of nuclear weapons worldwide [which also] duds nuclear reactors and nuclear propulsion systems." then, country "A" might get drawn into a whole web of false information that causes them to waste millions on research. Humans are tricky.
So, being skeptical, does this map below show the locations of weather weapons centers that were creating circular weather patteners for some reason on 9/11? Possibly, I suppose, but it could also just be the locations of the various ground based radar centers collecting information for the country wide weather map. At re-synchronization time, it takes time to rebuild the map and so you see expanding circles as the data is gathered. This is just a map, a represenatation, not the actual picture of clouds/weather over the country. Just a logical guess.
So, don't get too freaked out about weather weapons (HAARP, etc.) because everything on the planet is connected. Anything you do to someone else, you also do to yourself, eventually. We hope our weather weapons researchers, if they exist (wink), have already figured this out. Of course, those in control say, "Trust us, we know what we are doing." and those not in control say "You are arrogant, crazy, dangerous, and you have no right to gamble with our lives." So it goes. We passed the point years ago where we have wepons so powerful that we can't use them on an enemy without also destroying ourselves. Will our species destroy itself? Stay tuned.
3/7/2005 Strange Phenomena. (thisis) Ball Lightning. Guernsey, UK A ST SAMPSON'S couple watched in amazement as ball lightning entered their lounge.
Billy Gregory-Haines, 41, and wife Maria, 39, were watching television in their home at L'Islet. ‘Maria saw this streak come straight through the glass porch, then a double-glazed door, and shoot across the room,' he said.
'I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I was sitting at a different angle.' The couple watched as a ball, the colour of lightning, stopped for a split second about a foot from the TV screen and about 18 inches off the floor before leaving the same way as it had entered. Mr Gregory-Haines said the whole thing took about two seconds.
'We just looked at one another and said: 'Did you see that?' 'The ball was a sort of a blue-and-white colour, absolutely crystal clear. Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it,' he said. Mr Gregory-Haines began to inspect the house for damage but found none.
*NO THEORIES have explained convincingly the ball lightning phenomenon. The effect has been created without any electrical storm but according to most surveys, 70% of cases occur after a lightning strike. In some cases balls have been seen descending the path of recent lightning strikes and stopping near the ground. In other cases they have just appeared at the point of impact. In a high percentage of cases, balls have entered buildings via windows and doors. There is no scientific explanation of how such a ball could be created by a lightning bolt. They can range from a few centimetres in diameter to a few metres, but the average is about 20 centimetres.

2/28/2005 Earth. ( nasa ) Earth's Magnetic Field Reversing. The Earth's magnetic North and South Polls are moving, and they are going to flip. If the planet's magnetic field strength (measured in Gauss) drops to zero (even in places) as our polls reverse, the protective shield may weaken or vanish (only in some places?) and radiation may kill life on our planet's surface. Plants and animals living underground, for example, in caves, would be protected. You'd better start liking mushrooms. Watch for large increases in mutations and cancer as warning signs. Or things like this:

NASA predicts that, rather than declining to zero gauss, the magnetic field would become disordered. Thus we might for short time have more than one north and south pole on the planet. This official scientific stance says that the magnetosphere which shields us from cosmic radiation would not entirely disappear either. Thus, while communications would be erratic and perhaps at times completely inactivated, humans would find ways to survive.
The disorderly-flip theory is supported by evidence from geology that in past reversals the decline was not total. Lava flows that solidified at Steen's Mountain during a lengthy reversal process show that the magnetic poles wandered across the equator three times. Though strength of the field was reduced to about 20% of maximum, there is no record that it fell to zero gauss during that transitional period. (5)

Many of the descriptions are quite vivid, so there were impressive-looking funnel clouds," Swanberg said."
