3/28/2005 Alt Energy. Want better gas mileage? Acetone as a Fuel Additive? Unverified rumor:
"Acetone In Fuel Said to Increase Mileage - 15 to 35% increase reported. Acetone said to improve the fuel's ability to vaporize completely by eliminating the surface tension that causes an increase in particulate vaporization temperature.
Acetone (CH3COCH3), also called Dimethylketone or Propanone, is a product that can be purchased inexpensively in most locations around the world.
Added in tiny amounts from about one part per 5000 to one part per 500, depending on the vehicle, it aids in the vaporization of the gasoline or diesel. Acetone reduces the unburned portion of the fuel by aiding vaporization through eliminating surface tension, thus improving combustion efficiency. There are no bad effects and every good reason to use acetone in your fuel."
WARNING: Acetone can cause permanent serious damage (blindness, burns, liver damage, etc.) to humans. It forms explosive mixtures when combined with air. Highly flammable. For all I know, putting this in your tank might destroy your car, so don't do it. Will it effect emissions?
Writers on grgp say, " You can get 16 oz. at Walgreen's for $2.50 or thereabouts. It has some fragrance added to it because acetone is also used as nail polish remover but the fragrance doesn't hurt anything. That's what I'm using now. It seems to work fine. Use 2-3 oz. per 10 gallons. ... i use 1 oz of acetone to 5 gals of gas and it improves my mileage 2 to 4 miles a gallon depending on whether i drive in city or highway" ... " I'd be concerned that it would damage the exhaust system. .... and the injectors ..."
More here. And search google about this.
1/6/2004: Fossil Fuels Creation: Nature.com reports the creation of fossil fuels without fossils. A team, led by J. F. Kenney of the Gas Resources Corporation in Houston, Texas, mimicked conditions more than 100 kilometers ( that's 62 miles, well beyond the Earth's crust and into the mantle) below the Earth's surface by heating marble (Marble comes from limestone which contains calcium carbonate CaCO3. The limestone under heat and pressure re crystallizes to form marble) , iron oxide (Fe2O3) and water (H20) to around 1,500 °C and 50,000 times atmospheric pressure. They produced traces of methane (1 Carbon and 4 Hydrogen atoms), the main constituent of natural gas, and octane, (8 Carbon, 18 Hydrogen atoms) the hydrocarbon molecule that makes petrol. Interesting. calcite (carbonate) -- makes up the rocks limestone and marble .A mathematical model of the process suggests that, apart from methane, none of the ingredients of petroleum could form at depths less than 100 kilometers.
Carbon occurs in nature as the sixth most abundant element in the universe and the 19th element in order of mass in the Earth's crust. As the element--in the forms of graphite, diamond, and fullerene--it is a minor part of the Earth' s crust, but compounds of carbon with other elements are very common. The chemical symbol for an atom of carbon is C. Some common natural substances rich in carbon are coal, petroleum, natural gas, oil shale, limestone, coral, oyster shells, marble, dolomite, and magnesite. Limestone, coral, and oyster shells are largely calcium carbonate. Marble, dolomite, and magnesite also contain calcium, magnesium, and carbon. - http://dendritics.com/scales/el-carbon.asp
8/22/03: Gas prices soar even higher. Perhaps because "Big oil" is running this country and eating it away from the inside out like a cancer?
8/21/03: Gas Prices Soar. World oil supplies are going to be harder and harder to find. Welcome to the decline of the age of oil.
