According to the Gallup web site on February 11, 2003, "A solid majority of Americans say that the Bush administration has made a convincing case for military action against Iraq." Gallup called 1003 adults in order to declare this the overall view of the USA. Days later, however, millions in the US and all over the world marched against this view.

Millions made signs, sang and cheered as they marched for peace and against the Bush plan. Are Gallup polls accurate? Are they propaganda? Where is the solid majority who support US military action against Iraq? They certainly are a quiet bunch compared to those who marched for peace. We wrote to Gallup: "How exactly did you pick the 1008 adults you surveyed about the pending US military action in Iraq? Your results are a bit surprising given the fact that a few days after your survey one of the largest world wide anti-war protests in history took place. Thanks for a reply. I really would like to understand." Maura Strausberg, Data Librarian for The Gallup Poll wrote back: "There is a paper on our website that details our survey methodology, including sample size:

In a nutshell, they have a database of US phone numbers which does not include the military or college students. The 1000 numbers are selected at random from this sample, but the exact details are not provided. Is there demographic data to show that a fair balance of US states and political parties are represented?

In addition to the photos below, we once again took 240 photos of signs at the Sacramento event and 394 sign photos at the San Francisco protest. They are presented with no weeding whatsoever. As such, they are a fairly objective sample of what people really had to say.
