This was an interesting gig. Really fun! We played in the VIP dining area at the CSUS 'Causeway Classic' football game. We sold CDs and had to stop at one point as the marching band and cheerleaders gave us a show. Only regular subscribers will be allowed to see Xeno's face in the photos above.

Xenophilia performed a rockin' 21 and over set as a power trio ( without Amy Anne. ) We opened for Sinfest. Killing Abel did not appear. The club "On the Y" was formerly called The Hard Luck Saloon). On the Y is so named because it sits right where Fulton and Monroe split. (On the Y of Fulton and Monroe.) Great little roadhouse. Talking to the SinFest guys was the best part. Very interesting.

PS. Today was Amy's BIRTHDAY!

Xenophilia at the Derby ( formerly the Brown Derby ) with I Can't Believe It's Not Comedy group, the Velvet Hammer burlesque, and The Millionaire, from Combustible Edison. The crowd cheered. We played. More cheering, and so on. A dead battery in Xeno's new guitar box caused his instrument to cut out at a critical time. Dang. Recovered with Amy Anne doing Johnny Dep and that went over well. The guys from Combustible Edison had positive comments and we got hugs from one of the dancers. Oh la la.

For this show we got to hear the St. Simon Trio. It was a strange night. There were owls outside landing in the trees, screeching. The band was joined by Nick on the djimbay.

So, there we were, in the city of Pomona, 420 miles, or 6 hrs 40 minutes from our home. We were part of the Second Saturday Arts Event. For $10.00, you could get in to this Mexican food place to see us. Beer and Wine available. This was going to be a show with the comedy troop, but the vibe was not right so there was no comedy. What was actually going on that night in the area was a punk festival. So many ripped fishnets, spiked hair and safety pins in one place, that you wouldn't believe it. We played some punked out versions of our songs and then gave out some of our CD singles as Miles from ICBINC did the most amazing rendition of AC/DC's "Back in Black" on the steel drum. While handing out CD's, Xeno met the guys from The VIRUS ( Check out their web site, viruspunks.com ) and decided that they were decidedly cool.
Aug 8, Fri The M Bar
See site for location.
Another show in Hollywood CA with the comedy troupe ICBINC! The door opened at 7, we went onstage at 8. The show was $10.00. The entire cast was really on and the audience was given an excellent show. There were rumors of various celebrities in the audience. Performing with belly dancers as a warm up act was very interesting. Amy Anne was particularly hot this night, vocally and otherwise... but Xeno's batteries died, so you don't get to see any pics ... dang.
Aug 1, Fri The "848"
848 Divisidaro
San Francisco, CA
10 PM
Another show in SF. When we play with ICBINC, the band is just Amy Anne and Xeno who do humorous original tunes about conspiracies, such as our song "Kiss you on the Moon" and the "Cavity Song" about the great dental conspiracy. This goes over well with people who like to listen to lyrics and laugh. We made some new friends this night and put on a great show musically. I suppose our anger from the previous week gave us extra energy with which to attempt to knock people's socks off. The skits were both fun and controvercial and Miles opened up with "Back in Black" by AC/DC on the steal drum, accompanied by Xeno who didn't really know the chords but faked it while trying not to laugh.

After Party

A few years ago, although it seems like yesterday, we helped introduce Jason to Sacramento. Now he's on MTV and he playing sold out shows all over the friggin' world. It's great!! After he played at the Crest, Amy hosted an after party, but they had to be back at the bus by 1 AM so the plan didn't work out. We did have a nice dinner with Toca and friends. Here are some pics and video.

Soul Motor 10:45 - 11:30
Mixed Friction 9:45 – 10:30
Xenophillia 8:45 – 9:30
Zachary Tree 8:00 – 8:35

A female DJ from 98 rock said of Xenophilia's performance: "colorful and interesting. I completely enjoyed it."

As Xeno was loading in, a oil refinery exploded. It shook Amy Anne's car as she was headed to the gig and she thought it was an earthquake. "The explosion happened at Airgas -- a distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gases, according to the company's Web site -- at around 4:30 p.m., just southwest of Del Paso Boulevard on Kathleen Avenue." We could see the smoke from the Radisson hotel. video of explosion.

Solomon McCrea has invited us to play a micro set at his gig with Squish the Bad Man. A comic, Sean, gave us a great introduction, but had to deal with a possibly drunk heckler. As Squish the Bad Man said, comedy is hard. That's why we play music. Appearing this night: Sean (comedy), Counterflow, Squishthebad, Xenophilia. Solomon has some very interesting music and he really got the crowd going. Here are some pics:

This show was set up by Bill Mylar who played some great tunes after Xenophilia lite (just Xeno and Amy). We enjoyed this TV appearance and the antics of Miles and Ben from NotComedy in the skit D'Harlen's Big Break. We asked people to call us on our home phone, but when Xeno got home to see if anyone called, his roommate had unplugged the phone. Doh. No calls. Did anyone see us? We don't know.

4-2-03 News: Xenophilia wins 3rd Sacramento Area Music Award ( click to see it ) -- many thanks to those who voted! --, plays the Crest Theatre main stage and appears on Fox40 TV evening news. Three days before this, Xeno's ear drum burst from a bad ear infection and he was in the ER bleeding from his ear. (Gross.) So, he was half-deaf and on major meds for the 7 minute performance ... but it went well!

So sad! The last ICBINC show in Sacramento for a while! Now we have a week off to prepare for the show at the Crest with our TWO BASS PLAYERS and new drummer. Xeno's fever returned half way through the set. He was very low energy, he started getting delerious, and even messed up some lyrics. Rumor has it that Christian Keefer, a reviewer from the News and Review, was in the audience that night. Dang. Well, it was still fun.

Xeno opens for Beyond the Proscenium's version of Lysistrata, a Greek peace play. One song titled 'Lysistrata' was written by Xeno specifically for the Lysistrata project. On this day March 3, 2003 there were over 800 readings of the play in 49 countries. This Luna's show sold out and an impromptu 2nd show was also packed. The Sacramento Bee and KCRA News 3 were on hand. Xeno says: "This cast was a crack up, especially the ad-libbed lines that gave extra local relevance. Nicely done."

Xenophilia music in a top notch comedy broth: I Can't Believe it's Not Comedy's 'Best Of' show. Although one of the skits is titled "Naked Man" there is no actual full nudity in this show. There is, however, some full frontal laughter.

Xenophilia music artfully insinuated into a top notch comedy soup: I Can't Believe it's Not Comedy's 'Best Of' show. With a hint of garlic. Opening night was a blast! We were joined briefly on stage by the highly controversial local celebrity Baby Rae (aka the Naked Preacher Lady). This was not a planned part of the show, she was just in the audience and the cast used her for a skit. Since we play music during the scene changes and she was called up at the end of one scene, we ended up being video taped (for her local cable show?) while she danced to our music and we all waited for the next skit. The comedy show is all ages, but I'd call it PG-13 since it has strong language and adult situations. All in all, however, it does have a good positive message as well as being darn funny.
