First Sacramento Flash Mob
9/15/03: According to the Aug 29 Sacramento Bee this is the web site of the "neighborhood flash mob organizer." Nice to meet you! As far as I know, this was the first Official Sacramento Flash Mob page. A flash mob is performance art with no purpose other than fun.
I got a kick out of this recent Doonesbury cartoon:

Fmob #1: The first Sacramento Flash Mob script was posted 10:19 AM Pacific, Aug 12, 2003. At exactly 8:27 PM on Friday August 29, 2003, people showing no other signs of being connected gathered, formed hats from aluminum foil and walked the short distance from the Crest theatre to Cesar Chavez Park in Sacramento CA. At the park they pocketed or recycled the foil and quickly dispersed, giving no sign that they were just involved in the capitol city's first flash mob. Results: There were about 25 people there with foil hats, including one dog. ( Pics soon... ) The local news showed up, filmed the event as we walked and interviewed a few people.
Fmob #2 was Posted Tuesday, 10:19 AM Pacific Time, Aug 12, 2003 The script was this: At Noon (12:00 PM) on Saturday, Sept 27 a flash mob will assemble on the west steps of the Capitol building and will protest itself with signs and chants for 10 minutes. Show up for this flash mob with your own homemade sign and/or chant protesting flash mobs in Sacramento. Results: we didn't know it, but there was already a protest going on for something else. We had a small flash mob protest in front of them for 10 minutes. ( Pics soon...) We learned that email is not as effective as small fliers around town in getting the word out.
LINKS AND EMAIL: Check out the Cacophony society for more flash mob type fun.
Synchronize watches here. About flash mobs. More: Read strange ideas.
Flash Mob #3: No new flash mobs are planned at this time. I tried it. It worked. Had fun. Why keep doing it? Time to try other things. Here is a form I used to message cell phones. You might want to use it for your own flash mob or for something else.
